WFML Wedding Vows Renewal: Cara
Cara and Jamie the husband and wife Celebrant duo from Brisbane City Celebrants renewed their wedding vows on their 10-year wedding anniversary in a gorgeous overwater wedding chapel in the Maldives.
As a Celebrant myself I was already very familiar with When Freddie Met Lilly’s gorgeous sequin gowns, having seen these on both brides and bridesmaids they always look so glamorous!
I originally purchased a dress off the rack at a department store, then after seeing how dapper Jamie looked in his threads I realised I needed to up my game and find something more special to wear.
As this wasn’t my actual wedding, I decided against wearing white, and instead opted for a long sparkling champagne sequin gown, with a small train. Vanessa from When Freddie Met Lilly was fantastic, she suggested combining 2 of her dress designs to custom make my gown, so I could have the longer sleeve and the dress shape I loved. I am so grateful to her and love my dress, which was so comfortable to wear.
As the change of dress was a last-minute decision, I managed to keep it a surprise to Jamie who was expecting me to walk out in the original dress I had picked, and I loved seeing his reaction!
Our ceremony took place at the overwater wedding pavilion at Four Season Landaa Giraavaru, it truly was a dream destination wedding location!
We sailed to the over water pavilion in a traditional Maldivian Dhoni boat, it was such a picturesque way to arrive and we were giggly with excitement by the time we arrived at the stunning overwater pavilion.
On arrival the islands band played the drums and sung a traditional song. We felt so special as we made our way up the clear glass aisle together which beautifully showcased the sparkling ocean beneath, then we turned to each other and joined hands. Admittedly, our Celebrant hats went on for a moment as we both ensured we were perfectly centred at the alter for the Photographer!
We brought a custom-made sign by Brisbane Wedding Decorators for our wedding backdrop with the words ‘We Still Do’ which was placed with the ceremony backdrop floral arrangement and tied in with our ceremony wording.
Our ceremony wasn’t so much about renewing our original vows, it was more about celebrating our relationship and our marriage, recognising the challenges we’ve faced together over the past decade and celebrating the triumphs.
Being a Celebrant, I couldn’t resist writing our own ceremony which reflected on our journey together and how we’ve continued to grow both individually and as a couple. I managed to keep this a surprise from Jamie who heard it for the first time on the day, which made our ceremony even more special.
After our ceremony, our Photographers took us to the sandspit for sunset photos, Jamie relaxed his look by removing his suit jacket, rolling up his chino’s and going barefoot and I kicked off the heels and went barefoot also, which the dress adapted too so perfectly.
My dress was honestly so comfortable throughout the day, and I love that I’ll get to enjoy wearing it again.
By keeping our plans mostly to ourselves, hearing about our ceremony was a surprise for most of our friends and family. As no one had any expectations except us, we were able to do everything 100% our way and enjoy every moment of our amazing day. To be honest, with no nerves, and nothing to stress about I actually enjoyed our vow renewals even more than our wedding day – I highly recommend considering renewing your wedding vows!
