WFML Real Bride: Tecia
“Go with your instincts”, says our beautiful real bride Tecia, who had a contemporary wedding with a slight touch of boho. Read on about her experience how to find the perfect bridesmaids dresses and what made her wedding special.
So please tell us – with months (or even years!) of planning, did the Big Day run smoothly!?
Our big day ran so smoothly – absolutely everything was perfect, Tom & I had an amazing day & our guests loved it too!
Was your wedding themed? Did you and your hubby go for a traditional feel or more contemporary style?
Our wedding wasn’t strictly themed but we were going for a combination of a contemporary style with a slight boho look given I wanted a really unstructured bouquet and my dress wasn’t traditional.
How did the bridesmaid gowns fit into your theme? Did you have an idea of which style you wanted before beginning the search? And did this change much after you saw the girls at WFML?
It was really important to me that the girls dresses complimented mine & would suit the colours I had pictured in their bouquets. The style of dress itself wasn’t something I had definite plans on, it was more the navy colour that I was trying to achieve. And given all 5 girls are very different, it was important that it suited each of them & was comfortable on the day. I had even considered putting them in different styled dresses until I found the Byrdie.
Did your man choose his Suit? Or with some guidance did you help him? Did his suit compliment your gown? (or was it the other way around hehe).
We looked for some time to find the perfect suit for Tom given he is so tall (6ft7in). We noticed that a lot of AFL players at the Brownlow’s wear M.J. Bale suits & most players are quite tall so that was the next place for us to check out. He picked the suit himself, my only guidance was the colour of the shirt so it suited my dress – it went together with my dress perfectly on the day.
How many dresses did the girls try on before you knew it was the one for them? 5? 10? 15+?
Having 5 bridesmaids, I took a couple to different dress fittings at different times so all up they would have collectively tried on about 15 dresses. The moment I saw the Byrdie, we stopped looking as it was perfect for the theme & suited all of the girls.
How did their gowns make you and them feel on your very Special Day?
It was great to see them in their gowns on the day & to see my vision of the bouquets come together. They were all very comfortable in their gowns all day which was really important to me as I wanted them to be able to move freely & enjoy themselves.
Were the girls from When Freddie met Lilly helpful in what can be quite a busy and time consuming process when find The Bridesmaid Dresses?
The girls from When Freddie Met Lilly were helpful in organising the dresses especially given that not all of my bridesmaids were local – it took the stress out of the final stages of the wedding process to know these gowns were in good hands.
Any tips for our future Brides choosing a bridesmaid gown that makes the day complete?
For me it’s about being as open minded as possible. The only way I came across these gorgeous gowns was to try a variety of styles & colours (even ones I thought I would NEVER have chosen) just to find the perfect one.
There’s also no such thing as ‘have to’s’ – if you want them all in different dresses, go for it! If you want them in different colours, don’t be afraid to be bold.
And lastly, make sure YOU enjoy the process along the way. It can be very consuming trying to make sure everything comes together whilst trying to keep everyone happy. Go with your instincts; it’s your day at the end of it all, make sure what you have in mind becomes a reality & remember to have fun.
