WFML Real Bride: Steph
The lovely Steph found our LISABETH GOWN online and travelled interstate to see us and try it on! It was the one for her… read about her Big Day here.
So please tell us – with months (or even years!) of planning, did the Big Day run smoothly!?
We had a very relaxed approach to our wedding day. We kept the big picture in our head- we just wanted to be married & have a party.
We really only started planning for our day about 12months out.
The biggest hiccup leading up to the wedding was discovering the week of the wedding that Ernie’s Dads (the Groom’s Dad) his visa was declined. This definitely added stress that we didn’t see coming, and made for an emotional day.
Was your wedding themed? Did you and your hubby go for a traditional feel or more contemporary style?
We didn’t have a theme to start with. When we started looking at venue’s we kept being asked this question, and were completely stumped.
We wanted something relaxed, something out of the ordinary, something unique- I guess in a way what our relationship is.
We started on pinterest, looking at place settings and came up with our base and let things develop from there. We created as much of the decorations as we could. The place settings, the Bridal table centre piece, signing stool, table numbers & signage.
How did The Dress fit into your theme? Did you have an idea of which style you wanted before beginning the search for your Bridal Gown? And did this change much after you saw the girls at WFML?
The dress was a dream. I wanted something that was simple, yet stunning. I have curves that I didn’t want to hide. I wanted to be able to dance and move freely in my dress. I did a LOT of google searching and kept coming back to Lisbeth.
Did your man choose his Suit? Or with some guidance did you help him? Did his suit compliment your gown? (or was it the other way around hehe).
Ernie actually had his suit made in Ireland! he had his heart set on dark blue from the start- this was the very first thing that he decided on, even before the venue! There was a lot of messaging back and forth with his Dad and Groomsmen to decide on the particular style/colour. He didn’t actually try the suit on until the week before the wedding! Luckily not many adjustments were needed. The week of the wedding we realised the Groomsmen had no ties! We made the relaxed decision for them not to wear one. Our relaxed approach meant that all the boys were comfortable on the day. Ernie in his suit definitely complimented me in my dress. He so handsome
How many dresses did you try on before you knew it was the one? 5? 10? 15+?
I went gown shopping with my mum and sisters one day. I tried on about 4. I hated them all. I knew what I wanted and none matched what I had in my head. With Lisbeth in Brisbane & I in Sydney- I was devastated. I tried to source a gown similar in Sydney and had zero luck. After a very spontaneous trip to Sunshine Coast to see one of my besties, we decided to visit WFML (Ernie really pushed me to go- he knew I really wanted the dress!). It was a hot humid day and I was so frazzled.
I tried the dress on (originally in gold) & just felt right. It was exactly what I had wanted and more!
How did your gown make you feel on your very Special Day?
Perfect! I was so comfortable in my dress. I felt like a princess- a relaxed one! It fitted perfectly.
Were the girls from When Freddie met Lilly helpful in what can be quite a busy and time consuming process when find The Dress?
Yes! they were so lovely & helpful.
Steph, any tips for our future Brides choosing a gown that makes the day complete?
Trust your heart. You know your body & what works for you. Every body is perfect. Wear what you feel is you.
I was told the dress I wanted may make my hips look to big! I have curves & that makes me ‘me’!
