WFML Real Bride: Renee
Our real bride Renee had a relaxed wedding day with a few subtle hints of tradition. Read below how she found her gorgeous wedding dress at WFML in Brisbane.
So Renee, please tell us – with months (or even years!) of planning, did the Big Day run smoothly!?
I must admit, I am not a naturally organised person, and so the thought of planning my wedding was quite an overwhelming experience for me. Thankfully my mum was an incredible support throughout the entire process and was able to alleviate a lot of that stress for me. I think that it was due to this support from my family (and of course Kirk) that the day ran so smoothly. My brother and Aunties were such an incredible help on the day, helping with the set up and making sure I could just focus on getting ready and enjoying the morning with my bridesmaids. It was really important to me that our guests enjoyed themselves. I wanted it to be a day that they never forgot. I decided to forgo a wedding planner and so it was so lovely to hear our guests raving about the day, knowing that I had made all of those decisions, down to the finest detail. It made all of the stress and hard work over the past year worthwhile in an instant.
Was your wedding themed? Did you and your hubby go for a traditional feel or more contemporary style?
I didn’t really set out on a particular theme as such. I just knew what my style looked like and was somehow able to bring it all together in a way that worked. Pinterest becomes your best friend! The styling was a bit of a rustic-boho vibe. I wanted it to be relaxed day with a few subtle hints of tradition. Our venue was absolutely spectacular, which meant that we didn’t really need to spend too much money on decorations or styling. We instantly fell in love with the vast landscapes and re-purposed dairy barn and our guests agreed wholeheartedly.
How did The Dress fit into your theme? Did you have an idea of which style you wanted before beginning the search for your Bridal Gown? And did this change much after you saw the girls at WFML?
The dress was absolutely perfect in every way that I possibly could have hoped for. Initially I had no idea what kind of dress I wanted and I found Pinterest and Instagram to be such a wealth of inspiration. The lace was a point of difference which was the ultimate deciding factor. And what I especially loved about WFML was the flexibility to mix and match styles to ultimately design your own gown without the exorbitant price tag.
Did your man choose his Suit? Or with some guidance did you help him? Did his suit compliment your gown? (or was it the other way around hehe).
Kirk chose his own suit which was a deep navy colour from Hugo Boss. I helped him out when he asked me to but I didn’t want to control what he wore too much. I felt he should be able to choose what he wanted to wear (especially since he didn’t get to choose for me… thank goodness!). The groomsmen suits were from ‘Bruno’s Suits’ in Varsity Lakes and I could not recommend them enough. Their service is exceptional.
How many dresses did you try on before you knew it was the one? 5? 10? 15+?
I visited two other bridal stores before I found WFML and I tried on approximately 5 gowns at each store. So, including the gowns I tried on at WFML I would have probably tried about 15 dresses.
How did your gown make you feel on your very Special Day?
I was so pleased with how everything turned out. I’m not an overly emotional person and so there was no specifically magical moment for me when I put on the dress, but it was definitely special to watch my mum react and particularly one of my bridesmaids who hadn’t seen it yet as she had been living overseas. I loved every minute wearing it and best of all it was so comfortable! So many of our loved ones complimented my dress on the day which made me feel so much more confident and beautiful.
Were the girls from When Freddie met Lilly helpful in what can be quite a busy and time consuming process when find The Dress?
I can’t thank the girls enough at When Freddie met Lilly. All of them were so amazingly helpful and patient. I put a lot of pressure on myself in finding the perfect dress and the way that Vanessa and her team accommodated for me was incredible. They are wonderful at what they do and I can’t recommend them enough to all of my bride-to-be friends.
Any tips for our future Brides choosing a gown that makes the day complete?
A lot of it depends on your budget and personal tastes. But the best advice I could give is to be true to yourself and not to rush the process or settle for something you’re unsure of. It’s also a good idea to limit the number of people that you take to fittings. It’s an exciting time and the idea of bringing all of your girlfriends to a fitting sounds great in theory but sometimes there can be too many clashing opinions that might overwhelm you in making a decision that’s right for you. I took my bridesmaid, mum and mum-in-law and I thought that was the perfect amount for me, but everyone is different.
