WFML Real Bride: Melissa
Melissa chose a gorgeously different gown for her Big Day, and her photos look so fun! Read about it here.
So please tell us – with months (or even years!) of planning, did the Big Day run smoothly!?
Everything turned out wonderful! We have the most amazing family and friends who all pitched in and helped where they could. We spent about 18 months planning the day so for it all to boil down into 24 hours is stressful, but if you surround yourself with the best of friends and family, they will take care of everything on the day. It is very true what all past brides say, don’t sweat the small stuff!
Was your wedding themed? Did you and your hubby go for a traditional feel or more contemporary style?
We didn’t have a set theme, all we wanted from the day was to show everyone our love, eat good food and have a great time. We got married at Gordon Country in Goomburra, QLD. It was a perfect Winter day. The ceremony took place on the grounds outside and then we moved into the most gorgeous barn for the reception. We had natives for the florals in purples and reds, bunting hanging from the ceiling, blackboard signs galore and a multitude of candles all around the tables. The setting made for an intimate feel even though the guest list was large! The end result had a romantic country vibe.
How did The Dress fit into your theme? Did you have an idea of which style you wanted before beginning the search for your Bridal Gown? And did this change much after you saw the girls at WFML?
The only set idea I had before starting my dress search was that I did not want a white dress. I tried on several styles before my mum stumbled across WFML. There was an ice blue dress that had a neckline that I adored on the website. After I had tried on the dress, there were a couple of things that were not quite right, but I put my trust into the girls at WFML and was not disappointed! Vanessa was amazing in the way she explained that we could make the skirt a little fuller, add a long train and sourced the last of the most gorgeous grey lace. The dress was amazing and just the little bit different that I definitely wanted.
Did your man choose his Suit? Or with some guidance did you help him? Did his suit compliment your gown? (or was it the other way around hehe).
I didn’t have any input into the suit choice at all! My now husband is a Graphic Designer that holds a fashion degree so the choice was always his. He found a grey tweed 3 piece suit which I absolutely adored. We didn’t plan it to match, but in the end the dress and the suit complimented each other perfectly. We handmade the groomsmen’s ties as well as the grooms bowtie to match the bowties put on our puppies as they acted as the ring bearers.
How many dresses did you try on before you knew it was the one? 5? 10? 15+?
I think I probably tried on around 20 dresses. It could have been a lot more! I am an only daughter, so my mum was awfully excited and wanted to dress shop every weekend. I had to reign her in. As soon as I saw the Hepburn gown, I had a feeling that it was going to be the one and it turned out to be everything I wanted and more!
How did your gown make you feel on your very Special Day?
The gown definitely made me feel beautiful. The train was spectacular and made for gorgeous photos. The lace was gorgeous detailing and the colour was spectacular. It was the perfect mix of a little bit princess and a little bit different.
Were the girls from When Freddie met Lilly helpful in what can be quite a busy and time consuming process when find The Dress?
I cannot compliment the WFML girls enough. They went above and beyond to create a very special one off gown for me. All the stress was taken out of the search and I could leave everything in their hands. The dress even arrived early!
Thanks again girls for making our day that little more special.
