WFML Real Bride: Melissa

Melissa and her partner Matt commenced their wedding planning 12 months out from their big day. Their first move was to book their venue, St Mary’s Catholic Church in Warwick, for the cermony and then all focus was on finding The Dress. “Pinterest was also my best friend for 12 months. I think the key was not to forget to surround yourself with close and helpful friends and family. The day ran perfectly and was everything we expected it to be.”

WFML Real Bride MelissaDuring their year-and-a-half engagement the pair decided they wanted a beautiful but low key celebration in the country. Their venue was special to them as the pair are both catholic and would attend the church with Matt’s mother when visiting family in Warwick. The celebrations then moved to Hawker Street Function Centre, Warwick Golf Club. Not being locals in Warwick it was clear that Melissa and Matt needed someone on the ground. They worked closely with Peta Murphy from Weddings and Events Warwick to create the theme and style they were after. A key element for the styling was the beautiful 1960 vintage Jaguar which also complimented the church and vintage country theme, pictured below.

Melissa heard about When Freddy Met Lilly through a close friend who had recently married a year prior. “It was the first Bridal shop I had visited and went no further as the environment and service was so personal and very helpful. I definitely did have style in mind. I wasn’t sure what style would suit my body shape so I tried on three different styles and was able to custom make my own gown which was really special. I kept the original bodice from one gown and changed the cap sleeve to be off the shoulder. I then chose a softer lace for the material of the dress and although felt like a bit of a risk making the decision at the time however it turned out beautifully.” Matt opted for a deep blue suit with a soft grain through the fabric and soft pink shirts for him and his Best Man. He sourced his leather shoes and belt from Aquila.

“It was exciting to see the excited look on his face when he saw me walking down the aisle. When I was getting ready with my bridesmaid and family on the day when I looked in the mirror I actually said out loud ‘wow I look great’ I was genuinely surprised as all I had imagined and the expectation I had of what I wanted to look like on my big day.”

WFML Real Bride Melissa“The WFML Team provided absolutely fantastic service and made you feel so comfortable. Nothing was unachievable and they really listened to my needs and offered guidance based on what I was wanting. The personable service and environment Vanessa and her team have created definitely made the experience enjoyable. Including the champagne to take any nerves away.”

Melissa’s tips for future brides? “Go with the style you want to achieve and don’t be afraid to try something different as you might surprise yourself. You need to ensure you enjoy and take in every experience as you plan your big day. Surround yourself with positive people so you get to enjoy the whole experience of planning.”
