WFML Real Bride: Mandy

Mandy’s vibrant and bubbly personality guided her to find her dream gown and deal with any mishaps on her Big Day. Read about her love story here.

So please tell us – with months (or even years!) of planning, did the Big Day run smoothly!?
Absolutely!! The most prominent emotion I felt leading up to the day was anxious because I was so worried something would be forgotten on the day, but it was all good! My Mum and I are both control freaks so we had so many lists so ensure we had the best chance of a stress-free day, and we had so many helping hands from my maid of honour, family and friends it made it a breeze!

WFML Real Bride MandyFunny story- We were setting up the reception decorations just before midday and I asked my brother to start pinning some bunting on the bridal table that was supposed to say “Just Married”. He took it out of its packet and said “Um, Manda… this phrase isn’t supposed to have an L in it?!” The sign actually read “JUSL MARRIED”. We all had a laugh, Dad offered to fix it but it went straight in the bin and we decorated the bridal table with some coloured paper bunting instead.

Was your wedding themed? Did you and your hubby go for a traditional feel or more contemporary style?
Our theme was “casual beach wedding”. We wanted the day to be a laid back celebration, not too formal because that’s not the kind of people we are! My maid of honour and I both wore flats because we wanted to be comfortable.

We decorated the tables with fresh flowers, assorted shells and home made programs. Brad has played AFL for years so instead of a garter toss, he did a footy kick to the single guys, which was a great alternative our guests loved.

How did The Dress fit into your theme? Did you have an idea of which style you wanted before beginning the search for your Bridal Gown? And did this change much after you saw the girls at WFML?
My (SABRINA) dress fitted our beach theme because it flowed beautifully (especially because it was so windy on the day) and the back detail made it extra special. I had no idea what to expect with wedding dress shopping, but I knew I loved WFML designs, as I had been following you guys on instagram for years! I jumped at the chance when I saw you were having a sample sale, and Vanessa made the process a breeze! She knew exactly what would look good on me when I had no idea where to start and we got an absolute bargain in the sale. Win win!

WFML Real Bride MandyDid your man choose his Suit? Or with some guidance did you help him? Did his suit compliment your gown? (or was it the other way around hehe).
Brad wore shorts! We went shopping with my parents to find his outfit and even though he did try on slacks, he felt more comfortable (and like himself) in shorts so we thought why not!? He wore a crisp white shirt, with white converse sneakers, which I think did complement my outfit (but let’s be real- it’s all about the dress haha)

How many dresses did you try on before you knew it was the one? 5? 10? 15+?
My dress was about number 5 that I tried (all at WFML) I really liked another dress, but I didn’t think it was the one. Vanessa grabbed the Sabrina gown, and initially I didn’t like the look of it on the hanger, but I tried it on because I knew she would know best. I tried it on and looked in the mirror and we instantly knew we had found the one. Vanessa is just that good!

How did your gown make you feel on your very Special Day?
My dress made me feel confident in ways I didn’t believe was possible. I had my hair and makeup done and I was a bit anxious about having so many eyes on me walking down the aisle. As soon as I put my dress on my worries melted away. I was ready.

Were the girls from When Freddie met Lilly helpful in what can be quite a busy and time consuming process when find The Dress?
Vanessa made the process so simple. I had a look through the racks and picked a few dresses that I liked the look of, but if you are unsure of what you want like I was- just trust the girls. They are the professionals and are there to help- not just sell you a dress to make a sale. It was a great experience to also share with my Mum, definitely a memory we will both treasure for a long time.

Any tips for our future Brides choosing a gown that makes the day complete?
Just be open; to suggestions, opinions and experiences. I was so nervous about being the centre of attention on my wedding day but my dress made me feel wonderful, which made the day that much better because I could put all of my focus on marrying the love of my life.
