WFML Real Bride: Deborah

Deborah had a few hiccups in the wedding planning process, but when she stepped into her When Freddie met Lilly Gown on the Big Day she knew everything was going to be perfect. Read her story here.

So Deborah, please tell us – with months (or even years!) of planning, did the Big Day run smoothly!?
We planned our wedding for 17 months and in that time we had A LOT of problems! We had 3 different ceremony sites cancel on us, our first choice for catering cancel on us and then our second booking refusing to contact us, we had difficulties with booking accommodation and many other small and big dramas along the way. It was very stressful!

However, the day was PERFECT 🙂 The only hiccup was the fact we had to sit in the car for 20 minutes past the wedding starting time and most of the guest arrived late!! But overall, everything was perfect and we all enjoyed ourselves 🙂

WFML Real Bride DeborahWas your wedding themed? Did you and your hubby go for a traditional feel or more contemporary style?
The overall wedding wasn’t themed, however, I had a stylist who helped me with the decoration etc. for the ceremony and reception. If I had to name the theme, I would say country meets boho with a splash of woodland. There was lace and lights and greenery. It was perfection.

How did The Dress fit into your theme? Did you have an idea of which style you wanted before beginning the search for your Bridal Gown? And did this change much after you saw the girls at WFML?
Before I was even engaged, I used to go through Pintrest looking at all of these amazing boho wedding dresses and dreaming of the day that I was going to wear one just like it. I had an image in my head of NOT white, lace and flowing material..My dress was the complete opposite. The only thing that was the same was the lace. When I arrived for my appointment, I chose all of the loose, lacey and flowy dresses to try on. While they were beautiful, they didn’t have that wow factor. I tried on about 5 dresses before the lady who was running my appointment brought me a dress and said ‘I know it’s not one that you’ve chosen, but I’d love to see you in this’. The dress was lace, white, tight and had a low back…NOT what I was after, but I tried it on and it fit me perfectly. I walked out and no one said anything, they just stared at me. Then my maid of honor said ‘That’s the one, you walk like a bride in it’. And that was it, I had my dress 🙂

I received so many compliments on the dress on the day and everyone agreed that the dress perfectly suited the theme and atmosphere of the wedding.

Did your man choose his Suit? Or with some guidance did you help him? Did his suit compliment your gown? (or was it the other way around hehe).
Evan was completely responsible for him choosing his suit.  his Dad was married in a brown suit 40 years ago and he originally wanted to get married in one too, but we found it was very hard to find one. As our entire bridal party was mismatched, we had a lot of different colors. However, the one color we didn’t have was navy. Ev went to Tony Bianco in the City by himself and chose everything. I think he looked amazing and incredibly sexy on the day and we matched each other perfectly 🙂

WFML Real Bride DeborahHow many dresses did you try on before you knew it was the one? 5? 10? 15+?
I only tried on 5 dresses before I found the one. I am not a fussy person and I am very easy to please…but the moment I tried on the dress, I knew it was the one. Even though it was completely opposite from what I thought I wanted, it was perfect 🙂

How did your gown make you feel on your very Special Day?
On the day, I felt relaxed, comfortable and beautiful. My dress was so easy to get in and out of and most importantly, move around in.

Were the girls from When Freddie met Lilly helpful in what can be quite a busy and time consuming process when find The Dress?
The girl who ran my appointment was fantastic, she gave me the time to stand in front of the mirror and critique myself, but also offered advice and guidance when needed. She was very helpful in showing me how I could ‘bling’ up a dress if I thought it was a little plain and was amazing at making a suggestion for a dress for me to try on which ended up being the ONE!

Any tips for our future Brides choosing a gown that makes the day complete?
Don’t go into the appointment with a set style in mind, be willing to try on dresses that you think may not necessarily suit you or that you don’t ‘like’. It was good to have a base to start my dress search on, but I quickly learnt that while some dresses look amazing on one girl, it doesn’t mean it was going to suit me.
