WFML Real Bride Alicia

Long-time sweethearts Alicia and Dane tied the knot recently at the beautiful Osteria. Alicia and her mum were incredibly thrifty, utilising their sewing skills to make the bridesmaids’ skirts. Alicia had a very clear idea of the dress style she wanted for her big day, and we had such a lovely experience helping her create her dream gown. Their engagement story is a must read!

Dane and I were doing an escape room called The Jewel Thief at West End in December last year. Little did I know, he had organised for the engagement ring to be hidden in the room. I found it but thought it was just part of the game and didn’t realise he was proposing! After celebrating our engagement we got started on planning our big day. We had been together for 7 years and didn’t want a long engagement however both being school teachers we were restricted to school holidays to choose a date. We already had a venue in mind at Kingscliff in NSW and it turned out that so did many other school teacher couples who were getting married – it was almost completely booked up for 2 years! We ended up securing a Thursday wedding on the 4 October 2018. Having a Thursday wedding meant the venue hire costs were reduced and due to most people having to travel and take time off work, we could extend our celebrations over and into the weekend. I enjoyed planning the wedding. I had fun organising the running and look of the day. I listened to recommendations from friends and family when choosing vendors and received help and support with jobs along the way (I have the best bridesmaids and supportive family). There were a few minor hiccups leading up to our wedding but we were laid back and prepared for things to go wrong and so it didn’t stress us out. EVERYTHING on the day went to plan – it was just perfect!

My Aunty is a celebrant and kindly offered to marry us in a garden setting. We wrote our own vows and kept the ceremony quite short. We didn’t have an overarching theme in terms of style however we tried to plan our day so it was enjoyable and relaxing for both us and our guests. With my Mum’s help, we made the bridesmaid skirts ourselves and then the bridesmaids each chose a white top that suited them and that they thought they could get more use from. The venue needed little extra decorating. It had gorgeous fairy lights, manicured gardens and long timber tables in a barn style reception room. Our flowers were mostly natives and we reused the arbour arrangement on the bridal table during the reception. We gave our guests an Olive Tree each which matched with the food which was Italian styled share tables.

I wanted a white lace dress with a beige toned lining, low back, long train, centre split and with sleeves. I went to a number of different bridal stores however I enjoyed trying on the dresses at WFML the most as I tried on all different styles and wasn’t limited to a trying on only a certain number of dresses. This re-affirmed the style I was keen on, suited me. It was also incredibly fun trying on all of the dresses with the help of Vanessa and then also having a laugh at the ones that didn’t suit!  Dane had looked at pictures online and found a suit colour and style that we both liked. We ended up finding something similar on sale at Myers. I wasn’t keen on having everything all matching and so he just chose something that he liked and looked good. He pulled it off and looked incredibly handsome on the day!

I tried on a countless number of dresses! Vanessa was so accommodating, patient and listened to what I wanted. Together we chose different aspects of various dresses, materials and styles to create something that was just stunning! I love my wedding gown so much! I want to wear it again and again. I felt beautiful in it and received numerous compliments on the dress. I would encourage any bride looking for a dress to make an appointment at WFML. The only thing I would change on my dress would be to add a handle to end of the train. We went off road to get some great photos at Fingal Heads and I found it difficult traipsing around the cliffs and sand in stilettos and carrying my long train. It also made dancing a little tricky… My advice to other brides would be to try on all different styles of dresses to ensure you find the style that you love the most.

My wedding day was amazing! Leading up to the day, I checked the weather forecast and wind and rain were forecast. Last minute, I organised some clear umbrellas for the bridal party and a faux coat for myself. On the day, the rain stayed away. The wind blew but it made for the most amazing photos when my train blew into the air. It was not cold enough to wear the fur coat but it was a good excuse to purchase a fur coat, which I will definitely be using again.
