WFML Formal Girl: Laura
Laura was able to grasp the opportunity of designing a bespoke gown at When Freddie met Lilly for her Formal. After trying on countless gowns, Laura knew that what she really needed was to create something entirely her own! Read about her experience at WFML below.
So please tell us – with months of planning, did the formal run smoothly!?
My formal day went very smoothly. Perfect weather on the day (not too hot and no afternoon storms). I started at lunchtime with hair and make up and I was fully dressed and ready by 3pm.
I was lucky enough to have pre-formal photos with my school friends at a gorgeous house which was the perfect backdrop.
My formal was held at Sirromet and we all were able to experience a red carpet arrival.
How did The Dress fit into your theme? Did you have an idea of which style you wanted before beginning the search for your Formal Gown? And did this change much after you saw the girls at WFML?
I was really unsure of what style of dress i wanted for my formal. During Term 1, I spent quite a few days with my mum and my best friend searching for the right dress. After trying on many different dresses I knew navy was the colour I was after and I liked the look of a flowing skirt.
When we were at WFML I tried on the Suzanna dress and Mia dress. I really liked the sequin bodice of one and the skirt of the other.
We kept looking at other gowns at other stores but I kept referring back to those 2 dresses.
We went back to WFML and tried both dresses on to see which one would be “the one””. When we explained how I liked the top of one and the skirt of the other, Vanessa was quick to say, “Well we can make a dress by putting the two together”. I was really happy with this and we ordered my dress. At this stage I also asked if it would be ok to add some thin straps to give a halter neck look and once again Vanessa was more than obliging. This was during the Easter Holidays and my formal was in November so we had plenty of time.
We picked up my dress during the June/July holidays so the whole process was stress free.
How many dresses did you try on before you knew it was the one? 5? 10? 15+?
I would have easily tried on more than 15 dresses. We went to several stores throughout Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
How did your gown make you feel on your very Special Day?
My dress made me feel very glamorous. It certainly made me feel special and it was very comfortable.
Were the girls from When Freddie met Lilly helpful in what can be quite a busy and time consuming process when find The Dress?
On both occasions we went to WFML, the staff were extremely helpful. They listened to what I wanted to try on and gave useful suggestions. I liked that I could try on dresses and not have to walk out into a full store of strangers looking at me.
Any tips for our future Formal girls choosing a gown that makes the day complete?
Don’t rush your decision – when you do find the perfect dress you will just know that it is “the one”.
