Beautiful real When Freddie met Lilly bride Kylie was thrilled with her bespoke creation she wore on her big day. She tells us about her experience with the WFML girls leading up to the wedding.
So please tell us – with months (or even years!) of planning, did the Big Day run smoothly!?
We got engaged in Nov 2015 and the wedding was just shy of a year later on 30th Aug 2016.The day ran so smooth thanks to the help of our amazing wedding planner. As we were getting married in Thailand we wouldn’t have been able to do it with out her.
Was your wedding themed? Did you and your hubby go for a traditional feel or more contemporary style?
The wedding was not themed as such but the feel was romantic with lots of candles and fairy lights, and a slight rustic touch. It was a contemporary wedding and the decor was all white.
How did The Dress fit into your theme? Did you have an idea of which style you wanted before beginning the search for your Bridal Gown? And did this change much after you saw the girls at WFML?
The dress was a twist on a classic timeless style. I wanted a dress that was classy but edgy and the low back gave me this ability. I knew I liked the idea of a low back however with a lot of dresses out there this meant a very plain front so I was conscious of that. Once I got to WFML and spoke with Mon about adding bits here and there to give the dress a bit more I was instantly in love.
Did your man choose his Suit? Or with some guidance did you help him? Did his suit compliment your gown? (or was it the other way around hehe).
As we were getting married in Thailand James got in touch with a local suit maker we were recommended who came to Brisbane to take his measurements and then delivered his suit and the groomsmen’s to our villa in Koh Samui. They were very well made and the service was impeccable.
How many dresses did you try on before you knew it was the one? 5? 10? 15+?
I booked three venues for my first day of dress shopping and purposely booked WFML last on that day, as I had a friend who highly recommended them to me. There were a few I had already flagged prior to arriving that I knew I wanted to try. The very first dress I ever pinned after getting engaged was the Saphira Gown and once I got to WFML and tried it on I fell in love. After speaking to Mon and designing some bespoke modifications to the dress I was sold. We changed the shoulder straps slightly, added more embellishment on the front, added more fabric to the fish tail and also more embellishment along the trains edge. It was beautiful.
How did your gown make you feel on your very Special Day?
The dress was everything I ever wanted. I felt sexy in the beautiful silk material and the low back, while feeling very classy with all the embellishment and the stunning long train. I felt confident and beautiful and wouldn’t have changed a thing.
Were the girls from When Freddie met Lilly helpful in what can be quite a busy and time consuming process when find The Dress?
Without a doubt. When we left WFML after that first day I didn’t even want to go anywhere else. My bridesmaids suggested I try one more place but as soon as I did I knew I wanted a WFML gown. Both Mon & Vanessa made me feel so special and were both extremely accommodating to me and my party. We ended up getting the bridesmaids dresses from there and not looking anywhere else as well!
Any tips for our future Brides choosing a gown that makes the day complete?
Honestly, just go to WFML. The girls are so wonderful and they have a huge range of dresses. The best part is that if you are like I was and you know what you like and what you don’t like, but maybe just don’t know exactly what you want, you can go there and try on a few different designs which helps you to see what works on your figure and then make any small modifications to complete your chosen look if required. Not many other dress designers allow brides this freedom. I loved it. No one has my dress as it was designed by me (and Mon!) Although after seeing how beautiful it is in these pictures I am sure many will, and that makes me happy.
