Beautiful Bride Kate Malone was really excited to be featured on our blog. Her bespoke blue gown definitely caught the eyes of her guests at the intimate wedding and the backdrop of snowy mountains created the perfect scene for a fairytale wedding day.
So please tell us – with months (or even years!) of planning, did the Big Day run smoothly!?
We wouldn’t change a thing! We had a destination wedding in Queenstown, New Zealand during Winter and I was a bit worried about having it outside and being cold in my dress, but we couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day. Perfect weather to top off a perfect day.
Was your wedding themed? Did you and your hubby go for a traditional feel or more contemporary style?
Not so much themed but more set to the location and season. We had everything sourced locally, from the flowers, to the food and alcohol – all the produce was from Queenstown. We definitely were not traditional. We had some young friends (10 & 13 year olds) read ‘Oh the places you go’ by Dr Seuss, complete with theatrical props. We flew a helicopter up to the top of a mountain for photos, which was absolutely breathtaking.
How did The Dress fit into your theme? Did you have an idea of which style you wanted before beginning the search for your Bridal Gown? And did this change much after you saw the girls at WFML?
I knew I didn’t want a traditional dress. Having pale skin, a white dress would wash me out and I’m definitely not a ‘traditional’ bride. I have always loved tulle but didn’t want a big poofy dress. I knew what I didn’t want but wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted. Vanessa and I tossed around a few ideas and I tried on a few dresses and we ended up creating something that was a mix between two designs.
Did your man choose his Suit? Or with some guidance did you help him? Did his suit compliment your gown? (or was it the other way around hehe).
My husband wears a suit everyday so he is used to dressing up. He knew I was wearing a blue dress and picked a beautiful deep navy multi-check suit to complement my dress and fit into the ‘winter’ theme. In fact, he bought three of them and will reuse his wedding suit for work, very practical!
How many dresses did you try on before you knew it was the one? 5? 10? 15+?
I went to one generic dress shop and absolutely loathed the experience. I felt like I was being pressured into buying something I didn’t like and they wanted me to make a decision then and there. As soon as I met with Vanessa at WFML, I felt comfortable and at ease. Vanessa picked up my vibe straight away and by the end of the consult – we knew what I wanted. It was so easy!
How did your gown make you feel on your very Special Day?
I felt like an ethereal fairy princess! The colour, the fabric, the design – it is so unique and will always be so special to me.
I love it so much I’m going to come back to WFML to get it taken up so I can wear it again!
Were the girls from When Freddie met Lilly helpful in what can be quite a busy and time consuming process when find The Dress?
Most definitely. Vanessa and the girls helped remind me of little things I needed to do that I hadn’t thought of and were great help with talking through ideas. There was no pressure to make a decision immediately but I made up my mind pretty quickly. It was an easy process with no stress.
Any tips for our future Brides choosing a gown that makes the day complete?
Pick something for you. If you’ve had a dream dress in your head forever, go for it – but be open to new ideas and designs that you never thought you’d like or look good on you. It’s your one day to wear whatever the hell you want!
