WFML-Brides: Amber

Lucky Bride Amber had her amazing bridal gown bespokely designed by Vanessa and the Team at When Freddie met Lilly. She tell us about her wedding experience here.

So please tell us – with months (or even years!) of planning, did the Big Day run smoothly!?
We had roughly 12 months to organise everything. Due to our jobs we had to give a lot of notice, so we organised the main things, the date, photography, venues, cake, band, the dress and all the wedding clothes. We didn’t want this to take over or lives and be stressful, we wanted it to be fun so we had everything sorted and just email updated and spoke to vendors closer to the date.

On the day as everyone will tell you things don’t always go to plan. The valley festival in the streets caused a few people to arrive late to the ceremony but we bussed everyone to the venue so the fun could continue without delay.

Wheel chair access was a problem only at the ceremony which greatly disappointed us and one of our guests. If you have anyone of your guests requiring wheel chair access ensure that the wheel chair lift is working the week of the wedding.

Other wise every thing turned out, we just wanted to marry each other and party. If other problems arose we brushed them off and continued with celebrating.

WFML-Brides Amber (3)Was your wedding themed? Did you and your hubby go for a traditional feel or more contemporary style?
We are such bower birds we love what we love, and wanted to nest our wedding with it all. Regardless if others loved it but that’s how we roll. It was all about us remember!!! the one comment we kept getting was ‘it was so US’.

We love all things vintage (that hold stories and nostalgia for us) and all things Disney. We really didn’t have a theme. We were just lucky that the two venues we chose, The High Church and the Marquee at Victoria Park were just elegant white spaces – a canvas. They both offered air-conditioned comfort, understated decedance and both had chandeliers, so it helped with cohesion, in our collection of treasures.

I guess we were traditional in the sense of how the day was planned but we just kept to three elements, we wanted our guests to be happy, comfortable and well fed and watered.

We love our family and friends so the party was as much about celebrating that as it was about the decision to celebrate our union.

All our loved ones were involved, even or Golden Retriever who was ring bearer, thanks to Mutt in a tux.

We used little golden books as menus, we slipped the menus over the pages like a cuff – no books were harmed during the process. It was a bit difficult collecting 135 Disney golden books but we got there, it was part of the fun.

We had the most delectable desert tables, Pez and lolly/chocolate tables for the guests to power our guests to party with the live band.

Flowers on the tables and for our bridal party were amass of all our favourites.

We just pleased ourselves and all our vendors collaborated to make it all work, we were so grateful.

How did The Dress fit into your theme? Did you have an idea of which style you wanted before beginning the search for your Bridal Gown? And did this change much after you saw the girls at WFML?
The gorgeous lace fitted gown I chose fitted with the classic, vintage fun feel we wanted. As we had all the things we loved the dress fit so beautifully with the style of the day.

The first dress at WFML, which I thought I wanted, was a ful skirt lace v neck but I just wasnt me. it was so beautiful but i knew another style would be best.

Did your man choose his Suit? Or with some guidance did you help him? Did his suit compliment your gown? (or was it the other way around hehe).
Andrew chose it all on his own!! I know Shock horror a groom going rouge! We discussed what he was looking for before hand, I only gave guidance about sizing and accessories. Ultimately it came down to two choices, 1. a Bright vibrant two piece or 2. a nod to his Scottish heritage with a kilt, we didn’t think our world was ready for that, so he was chuffed with his blue suit by Calibre. It looked lovely with the white lace, we complimented each other and made each other pop. I think it was the inner bower bird in both of us that loved the bright blue we were both so taken by it, so hats off to Andrew.

How many dresses did you try on before you knew it was the one? 5? 10? 15+?
I only tried on 5 dresses in total. I didn’t really have anything in mind specifically, but I knew that I love lace and was pretty sure I wanted a white gown.

The lace is what lead me to WFML. I fell in love with all of the gowns at a bridal expo. I hated and felt uncomfortable with all BRIDEY things “you are supposed to do” but I had no idea where to start. I am so glad I went to that expo with my sister. I got to see the beautiful WFML range.

I quickly realised a slim fit lace gown made me feel the best. I asked the girls if i could combine the top from one and the bottom from another.

No problems – it then became the ADELE dress.

How did your gown make you feel on your very Special Day?
I love dressing up and our day was no exception. It made me feel so confident especially with the veil.

It was so lovely and comfortable; I hate to say that because it makes it sounds dowdy or ordinary but it makes such a difference on the day.

Beauty dosenot always mean pain. Made for me and i felt so special.

Were the girls from When Freddie met Lilly helpful in what can be quite a busy and time consuming process when find The Dress?

Absolutely!!! They kept me on track and just got things sorted. I haven’t done this before so I had no idea. They were like my fairy godmothers and the dress just appeared like magic when I needed it. I ran styling ideas by them and anything wedding so helpful and professional x

I never had to worry and I was so happy with the whole process.

Amber, any tips for our future Brides choosing a gown that makes the day complete?
Just get what feels right and makes you feel beautiful.

Don’t be coerced by anyone to settle on a dress, you are the only one who knows how it feels to be in it so please yourself.

The person you are marring will be so happy that you feel beautiful.

keep to budget and start looking as early as possible you could need up to six months for your gown to be created.

See the girls at WFML!
