How to Accessorize Your Wedding Gown

accessorize your wedding gown wfml veilIf your wedding gown is the star of the show, the right accessories are the supporting actors who catapult it over the top.

There are several types of accessories to choose from to make sure your gown is the star that no one will forget anytime soon.

Veil

This is the most important accessory for your gown and should be chosen with care. You want a headpiece that matche the style of your dress but is not so elaborate that it takes away from it.

If you don’t like the idea of a traditional veil, there are a number of other options to choose from, such as beaded barrettes, combs, tiaras and headbands.

Wedding Gown Sash

A sash is a great way to add style to any dress – the colour options are endless. While it’s traditional to match the colour with your wedding party, there is no absolute rule. The great thing about being the bride is that there is no right or wrong – the day belongs to you!

Earrings

Most brides prefer something simple and elegant, so as to not overshadow your gown. White pearls are always a good choice, as are teardrop or heart-shaped studs.

Necklace

It is traditional to choose a necklace that matches your earrings, although again, there is no hard and fast rule here. Generally, try to match metals as best you can (silver with silver, gold with gold, etc.).

Shoes

There’s a good probability that no one will be looking at your shoes; nonetheless, they are an important accessory you should choose with care. They don’t have to be white, or match the colour of your wedding gown. You can be as creative as you like and choose a style and colour that match your personality. Many brides choose wedding shoes that can be worn well after the wedding day is over.

When choosing your shoes, think comfort over style. Don’t forget that you’re going to be on your feet for a good portion of the day. The last thing you want is painful blisters to deal with on your honeymoon!

Something Borrowed, Something Blue

If you’re going the traditional route, you may be looking for something old, something new, borrowed, something blue. Accessories can accommodate the ‘something new something blue’ portion. Choose from a blue sash, or a new pair of earrings to complete your ensemble, and stick to tradition.
