Formal can be a stressful event for school levers as it often coincides with exams and the pressure of after-school pathways. The traditional coming of age ceremony that marks the end of an era should be as fun and stress free as possible. We aim to make all our formal girls feel confident and proud of themselves. Read on below to hear from our formal girl Issy and the process she went through to find her dream formal gown.
I was expecting formal to be stressful leading up to the event, expecting to have breakdowns about no longer liking the dress I picked or anything else concerning the day. However, everything ran smoothly, I had very little to worry about. It rained on the morning of the formal and I was expecting my hair and makeup to be a mess, however by the time the photographer was taking photos the wind had died down and the sun was shining. Could not fault the day, apart from the blisters!
I was so set on getting a white dress for my formal, it wasn’t until I started trying on dresses when I realised I was picking all darker coloured dresses. Before coming to WFML I had spent the whole day searching for dresses and had found one I thought would look nice, a dark sparkly tight fitting dress, however, I was not completely sold on it. I was after something a little bit different from the standard formal dress. I had peaked on the website and saw the Dawson gown and then when I entered into WFML for my appointment the same dress was on the mannequin at the front of the shop and I instantly fell in love with the dress.
The Dawson gown was such a unique dress, something no one had ever worn at a formal I had seen before and was beautifully handmade – I just had to have it! Coming from a regional town, I had no idea about trying on formal dresses or anything to do with fashion, the WFML girls were so friendly and offered helpful advice as to how to make my dress to best fit me for the day. Vanessa also went out of her way to squeeze my dad in to try on a suit whilst I was there for dress alterations. To save us another trip to collect the suit she mailed it to our home address, her efforts really did make the lead up to the event less stressful.
I tried on almost 20 dresses before coming to WFML and then once I tried on the Dawson gown I didn’t want any other dress but that one. I tried on other dresses at WFML and found many other gorgeous formal dresses, however, knew the Dawson gown was what I was after.
Many people commented on how beautiful the dress was and I was often asked where the dress was from. Looking back I am so glad I picked a different dress compared to the standard formal dress as I felt like it suited me perfectly. I just loved my dress and it really made my formal for me!
The WFML shop is such a calming atmosphere and the friendly staff contributed to making my dress finding experience worry-free and easy. The WFML girls really ensured that the dress I had picked out was handmade to best suit my needs and was exactly what I wanted for my special day. Take your time and don’t stress!
